The High Scope Approach

A play-based, child-centered, research-grounded approach that supports the growth of the whole child — birth to age five.

High Scope is a play-based, child-centered, and research-grounded approach that supports the growth of the whole child, birth to age five. It is an educational approach that is consistent with the best practices recommended by the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and other guidelines for developmentally based programs.

This curriculum features active learning at its core. In a High Scope classroom, children are guided to explore, interact, and exercise their creative imagination through purposeful play. High Scope curriculum has been proven to be sensitive to each child's holistic, cultural, linguistic, and developmental needs.

Another unique feature of the High Scope curriculum is that it is linked to Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) and supports all five learning domains:

It extends each child's learning based on their development level so that each child enters school prepared and eager to learn.

HighScope also uses child, classroom, and program assessments to measure teaching effectiveness and children's learning. These tools help teachers observe play-based learning, create individualized instruction, improve teaching practices, support staff training, and enhance student outcomes.
